Tree/Explode

The Tree control is used to display the structure of the data in a tree format. The sample shown in Sample11STH and Sample11MTH in the Sample.Components library will help explain the use of this control.

The explode operator allows hierarchical queries to be expressed. In the samples explode is used to extract only a portion of the data starting at a specific point or root.

Note
The Tree control is capable of displaying hierarchies with more than one root.

2. Technical Terms

Hierarchy

A method of relating pieces of information, nodes, to each other in a parent-child relationship. Each node can have no parent or one parent, each parent can have none to many children. A node with no parent is called a root. + Every node in the hierarchy consisting of a single root is reachable from any other by following the relationship in either direction, but there is no way of coming back to a particular node by always following the relationship in the same direction.

Root

The starting node of a hierarchy.

Parent

A node in its superior relationship to another node.

Child

A node in its subordanant relationship to another node.
